Do re mi

This Woody Guthrie classic depicts the prejudice facing the dust bowl refugees when they fled to the Californian fruit bowl (or 'sugar bowl') in search of a better life:

Now the police at the port of entry say
You're number fourteen thousand for today....
But if you ain't got the Do re mi, folks
Then you ain't got the Do re mi...
Then you better go back to beautiful Texas
Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee...
Why, California is the Garden of Eden
A nice place to live in or to see
But believe it or not, you won't find it so hot

If you ain't got the do re me
